New 'high quality' Edinburgh coffee shop and wine bar planned near Holyrood Park

The building, on Meadowbank Terrace, Abbeyhill, is a relatively quiet spot, with just a few shops and businesses in the area. However, plans by Studio Niro have been proposed to the City of Edinburgh Council to transform the ground floor flat into a swish new business next to one of the city's most popular destinations

The exact spot, number 29, currently sits next to a spacious solicitor's building, and was also previously a shop, before being reverted back to a flat. Apart from a makeup studio over the road from the proposed property, the area is relatively quiet and free from similar shops.

With the regeneration of the Meadowbank area in mind, including several blocks of student accommodation, the additions to Meadowbank Shopping Park, and the timely opening of the sports centre, it may be the perfect time to open a business in such an area.

Work on the building would include alterations to both the internal and external building, presenting the outside of the flat as a new shop front. Permission is also being sought after to turn the shop into a wine bar, as well as serving hot drinks and cold plates.

The business would not be a hugely spacious one, the application states that only 20 people, including staff, would be able to operate in and around the shop. If an alcohol license is approved, the business aims to be open from Monday to Sunday, 8am-10pm.
