New nursery to open in Richmond with derelict South London pub's beer garden to become playground

Developer Junion Group LTD will carry out minimal external alterations to the building on Ham Street, which has been empty since February 2020 and includes the former pub on the ground floor and a vacant three-bed staff flat on the first floor. Internal alterations will also be made to the building to create the new nursery, while the beer garden will be turned into a playground

The nursery will have space for 49 kids up to five years old and a maximum of 16 employees will be present at any given time. It will open from 7am to 6.30pm from Monday to Friday and close on the weekends, although events could take place on Saturdays.

Planning documents said converting the derelict empty pub into a nursery would give it an 'appropriate use to benefit the local community'. The building was first put up for sale by its previous owners in 2018, before being sold in 2020 and again to the current owners in 2021.
