Newcastle Airport unveils plans for £1.7m upgrade to executive lounge; Newcastle Airport's expansion of its Aspire Lounge is expected to be completed in early 2024 and could create 17 jobs at the airport.

Newcastle Airport has unveiled plans to upgrade its current executive lounge with a £1.7 million investment, creating 17 jobs in the process.

The airport will work with executive lounge provider Aspire, part of Swissport International, on a six-month project to refurbish and extend the current lounge facility. The project is expected to be completed in early 2024, and will be able to accommodate an extra 100 passengers in addition to its current capacity of 220.

It is expected that the new lounge will create 17 long-term jobs at the airport. Said to be a "flagship for Aspire in the UK", the lounge will be the first to offer three tiers within a single lounge; Aspire, Aspire Premium and Aspire business.

All tiers will offer food and beverages, charging facilities, high speed internet, digital newspapers and magazines, as well as HDTV and flight screens. Aspire Business will have self-service food and beverage options and bespoke private and open working spaces targeted to the business traveller, while Aspire Premium will launch a fully-hosted "luxury" table service that airport bosses have likened to a "high-end restaurant".
