Newcastle Building Society joins the Invest in the North East campaign; Journal and Chronicle campaign aims to make the North East a better place in which to live and work.

One of the region's best known businesses has joined The Journal's Invest in the North East campaign.

Newcastle Building Society has joined the campaign which is celebrating positive initiatives to improve the economy of the region, whilst challenging the North East to be even more ambitious in the years ahead.

Invest in the North East is focusing on three main areas - jobs; education and skills; and infrastructure - with the aim of making the region a better place in which to live and work.

The building society, which has been a key player in the regional economyfor more than 150 years, has joined the campaign to help push its aims.

Andrew Haigh, chief executive at Newcastle Building Society, said: "Newcastle Building Society has been a part of the North East for over 150 years, helping people buy their homes, save for the future and plan their finances.
