Newcastle 'plot second bid' to sign Blackburn Rovers star

Alan Nixon, via his Patreon, claims Newcastle United will make a second bid to sign young Blackburn Rovers midfielder Adam Wharton in the January transfer window. Chief scout Steve Nickson watched Wharton in action last week and is hoping to lure the 19-year-old to Tyneside by convincing the midfielder he'd be part of their midfield plans.

Wharton was reportedly a target for the Toon in the summer, but Newcastle had plans to play him in their European under-21 squad, according to Nixon. The Magpies may have a spot in their first-team European squad come January, if they progress into the next round of the Champions League, or drop into the Europa League.

Crystal Palace, Brighton and Everton are all said to be keen on signing Wharton and will make a serious push for him in the new year. Palace have reportedly been in contact before, while Brighton are looking for fresh bodies.

Wolves were keen in the summer but are said to have moved on and Blackburn could be forced to cash in during January.
