Would you trust Newcastle United's recruitment team with another [pounds sterling]50million in January?

When the dust has settled on the Wear-Tyne volcano and we've finished raking over the embers of the first half of the season, the issue will soon be upon us.

The buying and selling of players is what's going to make or break Newcastle -- especially when they have been open about building a new squad over the next "three windows".

A personal theory is the players United have recruited with Graham Carr overseeing the operation have been good -- and there was plenty of evidence of that in the way Newcastle played last weekend.

Carr and the United approach have been under seige recently and some of that criticism has had a vaguely Eurosceptic tone about it. Harry Redknapp's criticism of United being "half French" was very odd.

Better judges have had their say. Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville had wondered aloud before and after the brutal defeat at West Ham about the quality of United's recruitment. Neville said: "What have Newcastle actually got for their [pounds sterling]50million?"

Yet on Sunday we saw. Georginio Wijnaldum was scouted to provide a goal threat from midfield and with his late runs...
