Finnish telecoms, IT and consumer electronics company Nokia Oyj (HEL:NOKIA) (NYSE:NOK) and telecoms and digital services provider Elisa (HEL:ELISA) have successfully concluded Europe's first-ever Cloud RAN trial powered by In-Line acceleration, the two companies confirmed on Friday.

The trial, conducted at Elisa's Finnish headquarters, used the company's 5G Standalone RAN and 5G Core. It leveraged Nokia's anyRAN approach, which was introduced to ensure feature richness, energy efficiency and high performance compared to traditional RAN, while offering flexibility between x86 and ARM-based ecosystems through In-Line layer 1 (L1) acceleration.

Conducted in an over-the-air environment using 100MHz cells on the n78 spectrum band (3.5 GHz), the trial executed successful data calls with a range of test and commercial user devices.
