Stranger rapist Aftab Ahmed is facing prison after he admitted carrying out a brutal sex attack on a teenager in a Newcastle park.

A 17-year-old girl was walking in Nuns Moor Park, inFenham, behind Newcastle General Hospital, when she was subjected to a terrifying ordeal at the hands of Ahmed.

AtNewcastle Crown Court, Ahmed, 31, pleaded guilty to two counts of rape on the girl on March 28 this year.

Sentence was adjourned until later this year and Ahmed was further remanded in custody.

Judge Robert Adams told him: "You have pleaded guilty and the sentence will be in August to allow psychiatric reports to be obtained on your behalf.

"I order a pre-sentence report to be prepared but as you know, these are serious matters and the inevitable sentence, save in exceptional circumstances, will be a custodial sentence."

The full details of what happened were not revealed during the brief hearing and Ahmed, wearing a white T-shirt, spoke in a soft voice only to confirm his name and say guilty when the two rape charges were put.

Joe Hedworth, defending, asked for an adjournment for a longer than usual period so that a psychiatric report could be obtained.

Mr Hedworth said: "The complainant now knows there's nothing to worry about regarding attendingcourt, so perhaps a longer than normal adjournment would not cause any problem."
