Opening date for Edinburgh Meadowbank Sports Centre finally confirmed

The centre closed in 2017 for a multi-million pound redevelopment of facilities, with a series of delays postponing its planned opening

Edinburgh Leisure has nowconfirmed the new opening date for the centre - July 19.

With just four weeks to go until the sports centre is re-opened after a prolonged closure, the countdown for city centre locals has begun.

The Meadowbank Sports Centre has been a feature of the capital for almost 50 years and has hosted two separate Commonwealth Games in 1970 and 1986.

However, in 2017 it was closed for a massive redevelopment and locals have been feeling its absence since.

The new redevelopment will offer a wealth of new facilities to Edinburgh once it does open, including a martial arts studio, boxing gym, café and Games Halls.
