People are only just realising difference between salad cream and mayo

Salad cream and mayonnaise are easily confused on face value, but there is a distinct taste difference between the two. Even though they're made of practically identical ingredients, each recipe uses different amounts.

When it comes to the ingredients, salad cream comprises of more vinegar than oil while mayonnaise is the opposite. For example, Heinz Salad Cream is made up of 22% Rapeseed Oil while Heinz mayonnaise is made up of around 68%.

As well as this, there's a lot less fat in salad cream too. The small difference in the amount of egg yolk used also impacts the flavour.

Mayo has a little more egg than salad cream, which contributes to the difference in taste. It's the subtle recipe tweaks that make all the difference.

Mayonnaise is a thick, creamy sauce that's often added to sandwiches, burgers, salads and chips. While certain recipes are finished off with vinegar, some people use lemon juice to add a little acid.
