Developer Parkside Investments wants to build 470 homes in blocks of 20, 23 and 24 storeys at the Crown Honda showroom in Hyde Estate Road, Colindale -and the proposal could be green-lit next week.

The development would provide 35 per cent affordable homes, indoor community space, a café, retail opportunities, workspaces and storage.

Councillors will decide whether to give the application the go-ahead at a meeting of Barnet Council’s strategic planning committee on Tuesday.

Planning officers at the council have recommended the development for approval, saying in a report that it is “accordant with strategic policies at a local, regional and national level”.

According to their report, the council received just nine letters of objection to the scheme during a consultation on the plans, along with one letter in support.

Opponents claimed the local infrastructure could not cope with more development, the scheme would worsen traffic congestion and the buildings would not fit in with the surrounding area, among other concerns.
