Newcastle United's decision to make Kieran Trippier the first signing following since the takeover has proven to be a 'pivotal point' in the club's transformation. That is the view of former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson, who agreed with Eddie Howe's assertion that Trippier is currently one of the best full-backs in the world.

The former Atletico Madrid and Tottenham star again shone in the Magpies' emphatic home victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday. Trippier teed-up Jacob Murphy for the opening goal after four minutes, and combined to great effect on numerous occasions with the winger and Sean Longstaff down the right flank.

The 33-year-old started at left-back for England's Euro 2024 qualifier victory over Italy at Wembley, and has been a mainstay in Howe's team since his £12 million arrival in January 2021. Robinson was asked if he agreed with Howe's take on the veteran defender, and believes he has proven to be the 'catalyst' for United's revival in the last two years.
