Police car crashes on way to County Durham collision which left motorcyclist with 'life-threatening injuries'; Officers were responding to reports of a collision near the Park Head Hotel, Bishop Auckland, when their car collided with another vehicle.

A police car responding to a serious collision which left a motorcyclist with 'life-threatening injuries' crashed moments before reaching the scene.

Officers from Durham Constanbulary were called to a serious collision involving a Seat Ibiza and a motorbike on the A688, near the Park Head Hotel, at 8am this morning. North East Ambulance Service attended alongside the Great North Air Ambulance Service and the rider of the motorbike was taken to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary RVI with 'life-threatening injuries'.

But while on the way to the scene, a police car collided with another vehicle on the same road near the Westerton junction. Additional support from emergency services was required and the driver of the other vehicle attended hospital with minor injuries.

The road was closed for several hours and has since reopened.
