Rock band Palace gear up for gig at Newcastle Think Tank; After a summer of festivals, Palace are hitting the road on their first headline tour, which includes a show at Think Tank in Newcastle.

Newcastle's Think Tank will be turned into a rock Palace this Monday.

Following a summer full of festivals, Palace have embarked on an 11-date headline UK tour, which brings them to the city venue.

But who are they? Where did they come from? To fully understand Palace's music it's necessary to know where it's made. Tucked away down a side street in deepest Tottenham, The Arch is a creative nerve centre packed with young artists, designers and musicians where the band (Leo Wyndham: guitar, vocals, Rupert Turner: guitar, Will Dorey: bass, Matt Hodges: drums) rehearse, record, unwind and, if needs be, sleep. If the power cuts out every now and then, that's just part of the appeal.

"It's a very soulful place. It's on a street where lots of old factory buildings are," explains Leo. "A group of friends who were all musicians were a few years ago looking for studio space, a cheap place to rent, and they found this ridiculously run-down building, rented it and turned it into a working studio.

"We joined forces with them. Some of the musicians live there, it's like a musical squat. It's very invigorating, all genres of music, and is the most amazing melting pot of musicians and session musicians. It's very inspiring.

"We never want to leave the place. It reflects us and our sound. It wouldn't feel right if we went away and found our own studio.

"It's damp and it's dark, and it's on a meter -- so you never know when the lights will go off."

Launched with two sold-out debut headline shows at St. Pancras Old Church last October, Palace were then hand-picked to support Jamie T at his London comeback show.
