They add that this policy is already reducing air pollution by restricting car access outside schools during drop off and pick up times.

Outside Noel Park Primary School in Haringey, for example, only pedestrians, cyclists and exempt vehicles are allowed between 8.15am and 9am and 2.30pm and 3.45pm. MyLondon understands that there is no definitive list of schools that would be in line for the measures if Mr Khan was victorious at the ballot box once again.

In October, 2022, City Hall said that, in the previous five years, 373 school streets had been funded by City Hall and TfL, with the rest funded by the London boroughs. Anti-traffic measures, officials said, had made it 'safer, cleaner and easier for children to get to school on foot, by bike or by scooter'.

Officials also claimed at the time that more than 260,000 children were breathing cleaner air as a result.
