Scotland weather: maps turn purple and red as country to be battered by snow

The weather maps from Metdesk have a purple colour on them, which means snow, and it could fall from the Scottish Highlands all the way down to West Yorkshire. The heaviest snow might be in Perthshire, Scotland, by lunchtime

In the south, like the East Midlands, it will probably rain a lot instead of snowing.

But remember, it's hard to know for sure what the weather will do far in advance, and it can change a lot. The Met Office says it's going to stay pretty chilly for a while, but they haven't said we'll definitely get snow this month, reports the Mirror.

On their website, talking about March 15 to March 24, they say: "From the end of the week a broadly unsettled pattern continues."

A Met Office forecaster said: "Friday likely seeing longer spells of rain clearing northern areas whilst showers, sometimes heavy with thunderstorms developing elsewhere, though some brighter spells at times and clearing skies overnight. Temperatures feeling mild out of the fresh winds. Through the weekend further bands of rain expected to push in from the west and southwest, breaking to showers at times."
