Spectacular show of Northern Lights is captured in Northumberland skies

Stargazers have been enjoying a series of treats of late with repeated sightings of the Northern Lights.

Earlier this week, we showed stunning pictures of the phenomenon by photographer Andy Commins taken at Craster in Northumberland.

And now Press Association photographers Owen Humphreys and Tom White have braved the cold to capture the latest display, that could be seen near Bamburgh Castle, in Northumberland.

The natural wonder was seen in the early hours of the morning, as colours of green and pink appeared in the sky.

Known as the Aurora Borealis, the light show is caused by charged particles colliding in the Earth's atmosphere and is seen above the magnetic poles of the northern and southern hemisphere.
