Stuart Pearce insists he will not back down from his bold early prediction that Newcastle United will win the Premier League this season. The former Magpies full-back tipped Eddie Howe's side to earn their long trophy drought and prevent Manchester City from securing a fourth straight title.

Newcastle opened the campaign with a thumping home win over Aston Villa, but this was followed by three straight defeats including a damaging defeat to Liverpool. Howe's side have since gone unbeaten since the first international break, and currently sit top of their Champions League group after thrashing Paris Saint-Germain.

The Magpies currently sit eighth in the table, seven points adrift of Arsenal and Tottenham at the summit, following their draw at West Ham. Pearce admits his 'stubborn' nature prevents him from changing his prediction, but went on to explain why he believes title favourites City will not retain their crown.
