Byline: Sunday Sun

It's been another BIG years for stories in the Sunday Sun.

Today we look back on some of the news we brought to you during the first half of 2014.January

In January we told you the story of Jason Ryan.

It was believed that simple, everyday painkillers triggered a potentially lethal skin condition which left the 28-year-old in agonising pain.

Nissan production worker Jason was in a coma for nine days while his skin blistered and peeled away in sheets.

He was suffering from the extremely rare Steven-Johnson Syndrome (SJS) - which is believed to have been sparked just by taking the over-the-counter drug ibuprofen.

The disorder affects just two people in every million but can be fatal if left untreated.

The same month a model told of her relief after Geordie Shore star Vicky Pattison admitted a nightclub attack on her.

Student Hannah Kelso was injured when the disgraced reality TV star attacked her with a stiletto shoe in a club fracas.

The 18-year-old told how she was pleased Pattison's guilty plea spared her the ordeal of a trial - and that she didn't think she should be jailed.

Pattison lobbed her shoe towards Hannah after mistakenly believing she had thrown ice at her at Florita's on Newcastle's Collingwood Street.

Pattison, 25, of Windsor Park, Wallsend, North Tyneside, also pleaded guilty at Newcastle Crown Court to assaulting Victoria Burns, a security officer who was also injured by one of the TV star's shoes.February

In February, pretty Abbie Keers was left scarred for life after a glass bottle was hurled at the car she was travelling in.

The nine-year-old almost lost sight in her right eye and underwent emergency plastic surgery after the incident, where a thug threw a beer bottle, causing the vehicle's window to shatter around her.

Abbie, of Stanley, County Durham, suffered gashes to her forehead, nose, hands and around her right eye when shards of glass became embedded in her face.

We also revealed how a gun hotline for people to report concerns over licence holders could soon be rolled out in the UK on the back of a one-man campaign to change the law.

The hotline would allow concerned neighbours or friends to ring if they fear for their safety or others around gun holders.

During a meeting with policing minister Damian Green, North campaigner Bobby Turnbull was told the Home Office would consider the move in the coming months.

The news came as the Sunday Sun took on a major campaign to change Britain's flawed gun...
