Sam Allardyce is considering recruiting in-house for an assistant manager - with Paul Bracewell favourite for the role.

New Black Cats boss Allardyce wanted to bring his former Bolton number two Phil Brown to the Stadium of Light but, after thinking it over for several days last week, Brown opted to stay as manager of Southend United.

Allardyce wants an assistant in place before Sunday's Wear-Tyne derby and, while several names have been linked with the post, Chroniclelive understands Big Sam is now looking at making Bracewell his second in command.
