A mainstay in the Middlesbrough side for some years since graduating from the club's academy, he has often been a divisive player on Teesside. In recent seasons there have been some question marks over the Boro star, as he didn't establish himself as an out and out regular in one specific position, while for all his attacking traits, he struggled to register as many goals and assists as what many felt he should

Despite that, he has been an important player to the past three Boro managers, with all appreciating his importance to the side.

And while a great deal of Boro fans also recognised his significance too, until this season he still divided opinion.

But since Chris Wilder's arrival and his switch in position, Tavernier has taken his game to another level, with the central midfield role allowing him to express his attacking qualities while most importantly making use of his biggest trait - his energy.

Since switching to midfield Tavernier has thrived for Boro, with his energy making him a crucial player both in and out of possession as he is so comfortable in getting box to box and breaking up opposition attacks with his ability to get back, before quickly setting up Boro attacks with his ability to get forward. It's something that is appreciated from his team-mates at Boro too.
