Heavy rain will lash London and the South East throughout today June 18 with lightning strikes expected until tomorrow morning.

If that wasn't bad enough, tomorrow parts of London are also expected to see more rain as dreams of another blissful weekend in the park are drenched.

Clare Nasir at the Met Office said of the forecast for Friday: "All eyes are on France. Another batch of thundery rain develops here and will push towards the southeast through [Friday].

"Another thunderstorm warning in force through Friday."

That yellow weather warning for thunderstorms is in place from 6am today until 6am on Saturday, covering a large swathe of South Eastern parts of England.

Spells of heavy rain may lead to some travel disruption and flooding. For some, rain may be accompanied by thunder and lightning.

However, it appears one shiny seaside town just two hours from London may avoid the worst of the weather entirely.

Broadstairs could dodge the worst of the rain with BBC weather predicting a dry but cloudy day tomorrow.

Temperatures in the town will peak at 17C and current forecasts show a minimal chance of rain.
