The beautiful tulip fields with a castle near London named one of the best in Europe

A little closer to home, there are beautiful tulip fields that adorn the grounds of a castle near London and have also been named one of the best in Europe. These fields are in Arundel Castle, where over 120 different named tulips are planted by the head gardener and his team

Arundel Castle was started in 1067 and now survives in its current guise as a restored medieval castle in West Sussex. It now sits as a preserver of history with many of its original features both inside and out, historical reenactments, and its lovely gardens that host the tulip festival.

The festival at the castle includes over 100,000 tulips blooming at different times over the month. The bulbs are planted in winter and lay dormant before they burst out in spring.

The festival started on April 1 and is now in its final week, ending on April 21. This week, Arundel Castle says the highlights are the stunning ‘Oxford Red’ tulips on the Castle’s iconic steep banks along with the 'Kings Blood, Purple Burgundy and Golden Apeldoorn' together with the stunning blue 'Camassia' all coming into bloom.
