The London fish and shops named among best in UK with mains 'starting at £2.70'

A list of the top 12 fish and chip shops in the UK has been released and one London chippy has managed to come out on top alongside two others. Fish Lounge in Brixton is officially the greatest place in the nation to have the classic dish, according to analysis of Google ratings, Tripadvisor and Instagram by Betway, joint with East Coast in Musselburgh, Scotland

The popularity of each location was measured by a unique index score -based on the number of hashtags and views each location has racked up on Instagram, as well as Tripadvisor rankings -with the lower the overall index score the higher the ranking.

The other two in London were Brockley's Rock, in Brockley surprisingly, which came in at seventh. Eighth was also London's own Hobson's Fish & Chips in Soho which shared the spot with Peckish Fish and Chips in Cornwall.

The winner Fish Lounge has a decent 4.5 stars on Tripadvisor, 617 hashtags on Instagram and an impressive 4.7 stars on Google. Mains start at just £2.70 for a sausage or a spring roll. Pies are also pretty cheap at about £3.50 each and burgers too at just £4. Regular cod, haddock and plaice will set you back £11.20 and chips are £3.50 on top of that.

The next best London chippy, Brockley's Rock also had 4.5 stars on Tripadvisor, 254 hashtags on Instagram and 4.5 stars on Google. Mains here start at just £2.05 for sausages. Pies are slightly more dear than Fish Lounge coming in at about £4.90 but fish and chips are slightly cheaper with fish costing around £9.20 and chips £2.90 for regular.
