How badly has Covid-19 hit your area

This official map shows a stark depiction of the lives lost to coronavirus across the North East.

The Office for National Statistics ONS used information from death certificates to calculate the concentration of coronavirus deaths in each area.

The map shows deaths which occurred between March 1 and May 31 and were registered by June 6 in which Covid-19 was the underlying cause or was mentioned on the death certificate as a contributory factor.

The larger the circle, the more casualties from the virus in an area. You can view the whole map, or search your own postcode to see how badly your local area has been affected.

Among the worst-affected areas in the region are Crawcrook and Greenside, in Gateshead, and Stanley South, in County Durham, in both of which 31 people have now died with the virus.

Cramlington Town and Beaconhill, Northumberland, was also badly hit, with 30 deaths, while 28 people died with the virus in the Hylton Red House and Marley Pots area of Sunderland. Kenton was the worst-hit area of Newcastle, also seeing 28 deaths.
