Known as one of the worst bus crashes ever to have taken place in Edinburgh, the nightmare collision was actually caused by an unsuspecting kitten.

At the time, the old Edinburgh tram works were still running, alongside a series of bus services throughout the city, with the two usually working in tandem.

But on the morning of June 20, a passenger boarded a bus, having no idea that the two kittens they were carrying would cause such a devastating disaster.

Getting on the bus at Port Seton, the service had been busy, and was due to be making its way back in towards the city centre when it arrived at Inchview Terrace.

Pulling off into traffic, the bus was quickly thrown into chaos when one of the kittens, who were sitting inside a basket, leapt out of the space and onto the driver's head.

Blinded by the animal on his face, the driver swerved the vehicle, heading it straight for an oncoming tram car.
