The Northern Lights will be recreated in London skies this summer in a spectacular lights display

Although you may not have the chance to travel abroad to Scandinavia to see the real Northern Lights anytime soon, the spectacular display will be recreated in south-east London this year.

Hop on the Tube to Greenwich later this year and you'll soon feel as though you've been transported in a time-capsule to a different country in the Northern hemisphere.

The Greenwich + Docklands International Festival will feature the incredible recreation of the natural phenomenon, and is due to take place from August 27 to September 11.

The Northern Lights display is called ‘Borealis’ and is the brainchild of Swiss artist Dan Acher, who says the aim of his work is to "use the city as a playground to create a sense of belonging and community."

The display will see skies over Greenwich lit up spectacularly between 8.30pm to 10pm from August 27 to September 5, and then Woolwich from September 9 to 11.
