The quintessential English village is perhaps enough of an attraction in itself, but Restaurant Interlude, found in Leonardslee Gardens, is definitely the cherry on top. It's practically a yearly entry in the Michelin Guide and the AA's yearly list, even boasting its own Michelin star

The AA say that their awards recognise "dining destinations with the highest quality culinary offerings in the country". Restaurant Interlude is located in a grand Italianate country house in Leonardslee Gardens with high ceilings, ornate fireplaces, oil paintings and chandeliers.

The kitchen team grow food from its own garden in the village, as well as foraging and sourcing local Sussex produce. Michelin says this link to the nearby area is evident in its surprise tasting menu, which provides fabulous produce from deer to wild garlic coming from within the estate.

It adds: "The skilfully crafted dishes show good balance in their textures and flavours, and take on a creative, original style. The menu is presented in a shorter form at lunchtime."

Along with this accolade, Interlude also has the Michelin Green Star for gastronomy and sustainability. The Grade I listed Leonardslee Lakes and Gardens were first planted in 1801 across 240 acres.

It's famous today for its azaleas, rhododendrons and even a wallaby colony...
