Transport for London, a local government body responsible for the transport system in Greater London, England, has laid off 7,000 staff members because of decrease in passenger numbers caused by the Coronavirus lockdown.
Funding from the Government's Job Retention Scheme is likely to save the organisation around GBP15.8m every four weeks. The organisation stated that this will partly decrease the huge financial loss it has encountered, while constructive discussions continue with Government on the wider revenue support that the organisation will need to continue the effective operation of London's transport network.
