The UK new car market grew 21.0 percent in September with 272,610 registrations for the month, according to the latest figures from the UK's Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

The 14th consecutive month of growth was also the second best after March this year, as buyers sought to benefit from the new number plate.

Large fleet purchases rose 40.8 percent to 143,256 units. The SMMT put this increase down to a market rebalancing after constrained supply in 2022 restricted deliveries to business and fleet customers. Private consumer demand also grew, up 5.8 percent to 122,944 units.
