Unforgotten character feared dead after crash twist that stuns millions of viewers; Hit drama Unforgotten aired its fifth episode of series 4 on Monday night and it ended in shocking fashion.

Unforgotten fans were left shaken to the core and fearing the worst on Monday night after one of the show's lead characters was involved in a car crash, in what some fan have branded a 'sadistic' twist.

Since its return last month, the hit ITV drama has once again had millions of viewers hooked week in week out, with people's thirst for their Unforgotten fix summarised perfectly in the uproar at it being pushed back by just a day to make way for Harry and Meghan's Oprah interview a few weeks ago.

But none of them were prepared for what arrived at the end of series 4 episode 5 when much loved no nonsense detective DCI Cassie Stewart was involved in a smash.

The whole way through the new season, Cassie, played by Nicola Walker, has been struggling with the demands of her job and things going on at home, not least her father's early onset dementia and his alarming decision to change his will and leave his half of the house to his new girlfriend.

And as Monday's penultimate episode drew to a close, she left the police mortuary to head home but was struck by another car in scenes that left fans across the country sat bolt upright on their sofas, i they hadn't immediately jumped off them in shock!

The horror moment has now not only sparked concerns that Cassie has been killed off but that Unforgotten itself could be coming to an end.
