Violent Dagenham sex attacker shared video of himself abusing victim on phone app

He was handed a three-year sentence and will be on the Sex Offenders Register for life. He was also given an indefinite restraining order to prevent him contacting the victim

He initially pleaded not guilty to all charges, which included an additional one of rape, however shortly before the trial in January 2024, he had guilty pleas for two counts of assault by penetration and one of causing actual bodily harm accepted by the courts.

The offences happened in 2021, when Richards threatened to kill his victim and attacked her, causing serious injuries to various parts of her body. He then forced her into performing a sexual act on camera, which he distributed online.

Richards initially disputed the accusations, but changed his plea having seen what police described as a 'mountain of evidence'. Essex Police Constable Winn, the officer who led this investigation, said: "The victims of crime are at the centre of the work we do. This sentencing represents the bravery she demonstrated in speaking to us about this crime – without her, this conviction would not have been possible and Richards may have continued to offend.
