'We had to spend £4K redecorating our Edinburgh restaurant after council visit'

We reported last week how 'Casserole Wang bosses had changed the colour of first floor window frames from white to yellow and installed an illuminated sign on the category C-listed building in the capital's World Heritage area

They argued the paint job was 'lucky' and 'embraced' elements of Chinese culture while helping promote a 'multicultural identity' in the city. But Edinburgh Council officials, backed by the Scottish Government, ordered them to change the front of the Candlemaker Row eatery's facade.

So restaurant bosses were left with no alternative but to call the decorators back in. UK brand representative for the restaurant, Vivia Pang, said of the latest work to rectify the issue: "It cost us a lot of money, nearly £4,000. The main cost was the scaffolding which was up for nearly a month.

"We also lost some business - it wasn't that busy because people thought we were closed. We had to put up some branding on the scaffolding so people knew we were still there!"
