'We queued at Edinburgh's UNIQLO store - we needed to see if it was worth the hype'

The Japanese fashion chain opened its first Scottish shop in the city centre, in the a building formally occupied by high street retailed BHS

By 8am on Thursday morning, the queue already stretched to Hanover Street, and by opening time at 9am, snaked all the way to George Street.

Shoppers in line were treated to a performance from Japanese Taiko drummers and a ribbon cutting ceremony -with goody bags provided for the first 100 customers.

First in the queue was group of friends Willow, Summer and Kaylah who got there for 4am. When asked if they felt nervous arriving at that time in the dark, they said: "It wasn't scary in the dark, and it got light quickly. We have never shopped at UNIQLO before, only online"
