WE'RE SO BONKERS ABOUT Breakfast

Last year, it made a one-off awardwinning return hosted by Masked Singer's Mo Gilligan and Strictly Come Dancing's AJ Odudu

Channel 4 will, for the next month, ease you into Saturday mornings with a new series.

Originally launched in September 1992 with Chris Evans and Gaby Roslin - and made by Planet 24, which was co-owned by Live Aid's Bob Geldof - it was a brash, colourful, slap-in-the-face wake-up call which changed TV and signalled the "mad for it" Britpop era.

It ran until 2002 with 2482 shows being made.

Returning hosts AJ and Mo both grew up watching the show and promise to bring back the anarchy while trying to make it their own.

AJ, 34, from Blackburn, said: "There's no other show on the telly quite like it.

"It's perfect mayhem, I think. Bonkers but brilliant. I loved watching the show growing up.

"We obviously wanted to pay homage to the nostalgia of it and really honour the show we know and love. But also, I've got a younger brother who'd never heard of The Big Breakfast so, for him, it's a new show and a new era."

Stand-up Mo, 34, from London, added: "Yes, there are going to be people who remember watching it originally but there will be a new generation tuning in for the first time thinking, 'Woah, is this what used to happen in the 90s?'

"Being a kid and remembering bonkers things like ZIG AND ZAG. It just became the norm in the morning, which is quite weird as now, if you saw the same thing when switching on the TV at breakfast, you'd think, 'Man, there's a lot going on'."

The pair co-presented the one-off special last year from the show's original Lock keepers Cottages set as part of Channel 4's Black to Front event championing black British talent, winning an RTS award for entertainment performance in the process.

AJ said: "To be recognised for something that we had so much fun doing was just the cherry on the top.

We could've touched the sky that night." Also making a return is Loose Women's Judi Love, who will be grilling guests in the On the Bed interview, and Melvin Odoom, who will team up with Harriet Rose to play Hot Sausage with members of the public. Phil Gayle will also return to deliver the morning's headlines.

Tomorrow, guests include Rita Ora, Masked Singer host Joel Dommett, Love Island winners Ekin-Su and Davide and former Big Breakfast presenter Denise van Outen., who hosted from 1997 to 2001.
