Wes Brown reckons Sunderland will feel more at home with their new system after another full week's work on the training ground.

Black Cats boss Gus Poyet changed his side's shape at Spurs on Saturday, moving to a more adventurous 3-5-2 system in order to accommodate new signing Jermain Defoe up front alongside Steven Fletcher.

Sunderland had played 4-1-4-1 since the summer, and in all-but a handful of games last season, but Poyet hinted that 3-5-2 may be the shape of things to come.

It certainly allowed Sunderland to carry more threat going forward at White Hart Lane, but defender Brown admits the switch to three centre-backs is a major change and is something that will improve with practice.

"It will help when we've worked on that system more in training," said Brown. "You start to learn what Jermain likes best and the runs he makes.

"You start to see it more, even when we're in a bit of trouble, he'll make those runs.

"The wing-backs run a lot too, and they like getting forward, and they bring lots of options, so we'll hopefully make the most of them.
