Every year, we change our clocks twice - once in spring and once in autumn, to make the most of the longer daylight hours in the northern hemisphere

The clock change always happens on the last Sunday of March. Yes, it does mean we lose an hour of sleep, but on the bright side, our mornings and evenings will start to get lighter.

Here's all you need to know about the clocks 'springing forward' this year, and why we still do it every year, reports the Daily Record.

When do the clocks go forward in 2024?

This year, the last Sunday in March falls on the 31st. The change always takes place during the night - so if you're up at 1am on Sunday March 31, you'll see the clock jump from 1am to 2am.

This doesn't change the length of the day, but it does mean that sunrise and sunset each appear an hour later in the summer, says Royal Museums Greenwich.

The clocks will change again on October 27 this year, when they will 'fall back' by one hour.

You won't need to manually change the time on your smartphone, as most of them now do this automatically. But for things like your microwave, oven and car, you'll need to do it yourself.
