Eid al-Adha is a public holiday in Muslim countries that celebrates the time when the prophet Ibrahim had a dream believed to be from Allah that asked him to sacrifice his son Isma'il as an act of obedience. The story of Eid al-Adha then sees the devil tempt Ibrahim to disrespect Allah and spare his son, but as he is about to kill his son, Allah stops him and gives him a lamb to sacrifice instead

Eid al-Adha means 'festival of sacrifice' and is one of the most important festivals in the Muslim calendar. MyLondon has compiled everything you need to know about when the celebrations will begin and what you can expect.

Eid al-Adha will be celebrated in 2024 from the evening of Sunday June 16 until the evening of Thursday June 20. Following the Eid prater on the first day of Eid al-Adha a sacrifice is made, Qurbani, to remember the sacrifice made by Ibrahim.
