Where Blackadder cast are now 38 years after classic comedy first aired -from Peppa Pig to Mr Bean

The first series, The Black Adder, was written by Richard Curtis and Rowan Atkinson -who of course played anti-hero Edmund Blackadder in the hilarious series.

Blackadder was so popular that in a 2004 poll to find Britain’s Best Sitcom, Blackadder came in second place for the best British sitcom of all time -losing out on the top spot to Only Fools and Horses.

Series one of the show was set at the end of the British Middle Ages -the year 1485, and follows an ‘alternative history’.

The series comedically covered several aspects of medieval life in Britain, including witchcraft, royal succession and the conflict between the Church and the Crown.

It also featured Shakespearean dialogue, often adapted for comic effect; the end credits featured the words "Additional Dialogue by William Shakespeare".

But where are the cast of series one now, nearly four decades after the comedy started

Rowan Atkinson

Rowan Atkinson is, of course, a household name.

The 66-year-old was awarded a CBE in 2013 for services to drama and charity.

On screen, following writing and starring in Blackadder -you probably don’t need us to tell you what Atkinson went on to do.

He went on to become Mr. Bean between 1990-1995, a role he would reprise for later Mr. Bean films Bean in 1997, and Mr. Bean’s Holiday, released in 2007.

The Johnny English series was another notable career highlight for Atkinson, who also featured in a Disney film, as the voice of Zazu in 1994’s The Lion King.

In 2016, Atkinson told the Radio Times he would never retire the character of Mr. Bean.

Off screen, Atkinson has three children -two with his first wife Sunetra Sastry, and a third with comedian Louise Ford, who he has been in a relationship with since 2014.

Brian Blessed

The Blackadder bunch are certainly impressive, as Brian Blessed OBE was also honoured for services to the arts and charity, in 2016.

Just before Blackadder, in which he played King Richard IV of England, Blessed went on to star as Old Deutronomy in the 1981 original London production of the musical Cats.

After this, he went on to become Boss Nass in Star Wars: Episode I -The Phantom Menace, and voiced villainous Clayton in Disney’s Tarzan.

Now, aged 84, Blessed voices Grampy Rabbit in Peppa Pig, a character he’s been voicing since 2004.

Outside of acting, Blessed enjoys expeditions and attempted to climb Mount Everest three times without supplemental oxygen...
