Women accused of assault 'acted in self defence'

Bethan Roberts, 31, and Beverley Bradley, 60, attended Teesside Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

The Hartlepool duo are accused of assault by beating on April 28 in the town.

Roberts, of Northgate, and Bradley, of Homer Grove, previously pleaded not guilty to the offence.

The pair made their second appearance at the Middlesbrough court for a case management hearing before they stand trial. Colin Sleeman, mitigating, said: "The complainant gives one version and we give another."

He added that the pair acted in "self defence".
