You'll never guess what Npower call handler told this customer when he rang at 4pm; The helpline worker for energy giant Npower has been disciplined after an outburst over their finishing time.

A helpline advisor at energy company Npower has been disciplined after complaining to a customer that it was the end of her shift.

The woman told customer Anthony McIvor that she was not being paid to take his call because it was after her finishing time.

Anthony had an inquiry about his bill but the call went past the advisor's 4pm knocking-off time.

She told an astonished Anthony: "Do you realise I am not been paid for this call?"

Anthony's question about his bill was not resolved after the conversation.

And that's when he came to us for help.

Now the woman has been banned from dealing with members of the public.

And further disciplinary action may follow.

Anthony, ofKillingworth,North Tyneside, was challenging a big bill for almost [pounds sterling]2000.

He said: "I queried the bill and the lady was terrible with me, telling me that if I can't pay then Npower can arrange a payment plan etc etc.

"After a heated discussion which involved me telling her that the bill cannot be correct and it's impossible for us to use 11,000 electricity units in three months she still didn't get what I was saying.

"She wouldn't help me and even said, 'Do you realise I was meant to finish at 4 so I'm not being paid for this call?'".

"I asked her if the call was being recorded and she said it was.

"I have raised a complaint withNpowerand as yet nobody has got back to me.

"In the meantime, my monthly payment has went from [pounds sterling]109 per month to [pounds sterling]189.

"I am married with two young children and this [pounds sterling]2000 bill in the run up to Christmas is causing considerable stress."

Anthony said he had been on a fixed tariff for 10 months without any problems until recently.

He had three bills in that time and they had all been normal.

But the most recent included an amount for a "bill reversal" which shot the amount up to [pounds sterling]2,000.

He is querying the reading of 11,000 units per quarter because his previous bills had been in the region of 920 units per...
