About the Author
Wayne is a chartered quantity surveyor, arbitrator and mediator
with more than ft y years of international experience, having
worked in the capacity of consultant to clients, contractors and sub-
contractors on major building and infrastr ucture projects in Africa,
the United Kingdom, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
For the past forty years Wayne has focused on contract, d ispute
and risk management, and primarily on dispute avoidance. Wayne’s
main role in dispute management is case-ma naging arbitration and
court cases, a nd he has been appointed as an arbitrator, a mediator
and an expert witness on various international construction dis-
putes. In undertaking contract management tasks, Wayne’s focus
has been to guide clients towards sensible and clear communication,
nurturing relationships and seek ing early solutions to problems, with
the primary goal being to avoid unnecessary conict.
Wayne is now based in Lucerne, Switzerland, where he provides
dispute management support to the international construction
industry, including arbitration, mediation, claim evaluation and/or
preparation, dispute avoidance and amicable settlement strategies.
Wayne also advises third-part y funders on the merits of potential
client arbitration cases (due diligence). As a result of his appoint-
ments as arbitrator, Wayne has also acted a s a ‘shadow arbitrator’,
providing feedback to legal counsel a nd clients on those aspects of
their submissions that may or may not persuade a tribunal.
Wayne has lectured at the Universities of Hong Kong and
KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa; presented conference/seminar
papers in Greece, ailand and Qatar; run in-house workshops and
training programmes for organizations based in the United King-
dom, ailand, Bulgaria and Qatar; and has had articles published
