: This is an application under Article 31(8) of the Nursing and Midwifery Order 2001, for an extension of an interim suspension order imposed upon the respondent registration by the Investigation Committee of the Nursing and Midwifery Council on 3rd December 2008 for a period of 18 months and therefore due to expire on 2nd June 2010.
The application is supported by a witness statement dated 10th May 2010 from Claire Stringfellow, a case manager, in the Fitness to Practice Directorate of the Council.
A substantive hearing of the complaint against the respondent is due to be heard on 8th and 9th June 2010 but it is not, at this stage, possible to determine when the case is likely finally to be concluded.
In the circumstances, I am entirely satisfied that it is necessary to extend the interim order in the interests of protection of the public. The interim suspension order will therefore be extended for a period of 3 months from 2nd June 2010.
